HB 4705:  Designates a portion of highway M-150 (Rochester Road) in Oakland County as the “William S. Broomfield Memorial Highway”.

Passage:  104-3 with Immediate Effect

Why I voted YES: This highway naming allows us to express our gratitude and appreciation for William S. Broomfield and his service to our state and nation.

BILL PACKAGE HBs 4977 & 4978:  HB 4977 authorizes certain summer resort organizations to convert into domestic non-profits. HB 4978 (Roth) adds summer resorts formed under PA 39 of 1889 to the defined list of corporations under the Nonprofit Corporation Act.

HB 4978 Passage:  93-14 with Immediate Effect

Why I voted NO: Summer resorts are exactly that, and should be incorporated as such.

HB 4924:  Would create the Uniform Partition of Heirs Property Act. This bill deals with the inheritance of real property through intestate succession, which is when a person dies without a will or other estate planning document.

Passage:  94-13 with Immediate Effect

Why I voted YES: This uniform act creates a process that is more fair to a deceased person’s heirs and protects them against real-estate speculators.
