State Rep. Ken Borton this month spearheaded an effort to recognize June 2025 as Great Outdoors Month in Michigan, gaining bipartisan support in the state House.
“Michigan is home to some of the most breathtaking natural resources in the country – over 100 state parks and recreation areas, 11,000 inland lakes, 36,000 miles of rivers and streams, and 13,000 miles of trails – all of which invite us to explore, relax, and reconnect,” said Borton, R-Gaylord. “From the North Central State Trail to the shores of the Great Lakes, our unique landscape provides opportunities for hiking, skiing, snowmobiling, fishing, camping, and wildlife observation. These experiences enhance our health, strengthen our families, and make Michigan a better place to live, work, and play.
“Outdoor recreation also fuels our economy – supporting over 118,000 jobs and generating nearly $14 billion annually. These lands and waters define who we are and remind us of our responsibility to preserve them. So, this month, let’s celebrate the beauty, the adventure, and the freedom of the Michigan outdoors.”
Borton’s House Resolution 123 was approved by the House last week.
